What do you want your life to look and feel like?

That simple question changed everything for me. It was one my coach asked me—and it’s become a compass I return to again and again. Today, I ask it of every client who sits across from me, whether we’re working on personal resilience or the next big business breakthrough.

What Do You Want Your Life to Look and Feel Like? | Discover Your “Why”

Why this question matters

Every choice we make is fueled by a “why.” If we never stop to ask what we really want, our days can slip by chasing goals that don’t light us up. When you pause and picture your ideal life—how it feels when you wake each morning, the energy you bring to your relationships, the meaning behind your work—you plant a seed of clarity. That seed will guide every next step.

From prestige to presence

I’ll be honest: when I first asked myself this question, my answers were all about money and recognition. I chased launches and speaking events and felt proud when my client list was overflowing. But over time, the “what” I wanted shifted.

Then: “I want to be known, to earn more, to build a big reputation.”

Now: “I want to be present with my family, fully engaged with my community, generous with my time and encouragement.”

My joy today comes less from awards on a shelf than from seeing a client light up when she names her own deepest longings—and then steps courageously toward them.

Steps to begin your journey

  1. Carve out quiet. Block 15 minutes in your calendar this week—no phone, no notifications. Just a blank page or journal.

  2. Ask the big question. “What do I want my life to look and feel like?” Write whatever comes, without judgment.

  3. Scan for themes. After you’ve written, look back and highlight recurring words: freedom, creativity, connection, peace.

  4. Align one choice. Pick one small action that embodies your highest theme. If “connection” surfaced, maybe you schedule a weekly coffee date with a friend. If “creativity” bubbled up, maybe you set aside 20 minutes each morning to doodle or brainstorm.

  5. Reflect and adjust. At month’s end, revisit the question. How have your needs shifted? What surprised you?

Your invitation

Are you ready to start? To steer your days toward meaning instead of momentum? To let your heart’s deepest desires chart the course?

I promise: asking—and answering—this question is empowering. It reminds you that you are not a passenger in your life. You are the driver, with the power to steer toward presence, purpose, and joy.

So, what do you want your life to look and feel like? Let’s find out—together.
