I Think I Am Ready to Slow Down
Hello friend,
Fall has arrived in Saskatchewan, and I can feel myself craving a different rhythm.
The days are getting shorter. The evenings are cooler. And I find myself wanting to turn down the noise and settle into the things that make life feel a little more grounded.
Maybe you are feeling it too.
A Little Yarny Goodness
Tomorrow, October 3, I am heading to Saskatoon for the Silver Willow Fibre Festival at Lakeview Church, 19 Glazier Road.
The doors are open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and admission is $5 for adults at the door.
I am so excited to wander through the vendors and see what yarny goodness I can find. When your closest yarn shop is an hour and a half away, a fibre festival is definitely worth the drive.
There is something wonderful about being surrounded by people who understand why you need to touch every skein before deciding which one needs to come home with you.
I will share some of my finds afterwards. Make sure you are following me on Instagram!
The Maker's Sanctuary: Fibre Art, Slow Living, and the Quiet Power of Making is slowly coming together.
Slowly seems appropriate for this book.
The more I write, the more I realize that this is not simply a book about knitting and crochet. It is about what happens to us when we make something with our hands. It is about rhythm, rest, creativity, healing, and learning to be present in our own lives.
I cannot wait to share more with you.
Should We Start a Fall Book Club?
As fall settled in, I found myself reaching for Wintering by Katherine May again.
For several years, I hosted a Fall Book Club, but I have not done one in a while.
I think I am ready to bring it back. And I have an idea.
What if we spent several weeks listening to Wintering together while working on a simple one-skein knitting or crochet project?
Nothing complicated. Nothing that needs to become another obligation on the calendar.
Just a good book, a skein of yarn, a few quiet evenings, and a community of people choosing to slow down together.
We could listen to the audiobook over several weeks, work on our projects at our own pace, and then gather virtually at the end for a conversation about the book, what we made, and what we learned along the way.
I am also dreaming up a few special things for the journey, including some giveaways.
If this sounds like something you need too, sign up below. I will send everyone interested the details once I have everything ready.
There is no pressure. No race to finish. Just an invitation to make some room for ourselves this fall.
Choosing Analog
I read a blog post some time ago about choosing to go analog, and the idea has stayed with me.
I have been thinking a lot about how much of our lives now happens through a screen. Our calendars, conversations, books, photographs, entertainment, work, shopping, news, and even our quiet moments can all happen on the same device.
Convenient? Absolutely.
But I am beginning to question whether convenience should always be the goal.
Lately, I have been intentionally choosing the slower option.
Writing things down. Picking up an actual book. Working with yarn. Turning off notifications. Sitting somewhere without feeling the need to fill the silence.
There is something about using our hands that brings us back into the physical world.
Maybe that is part of what I am looking for right now.
Not another productivity system.
Not another app.
Not another way to squeeze more into the day.
Just a little more space to notice my own life while I am living it.
Perhaps that is why the idea of spending a few fall evenings with Wintering, a skein of yarn, and all of you feels especially right.
If you have been craving something slower too, I hope you will join me.
Until next time,

P.S. If you see me at the Silver Willow Fibre Festival tomorrow, please come and say hello. I will probably be the one trying to convince myself that I absolutely do not need another skein of yarn.
